The Monday Morning Memo

“This is where loose women in beehive hairdos
came to meet guys in two-tone shoes.”
–
Michael Zaplitny,
speaking of a bar in 1970’s Saskatoon.

My friend Ted Farr was with me when Michael said it.
We laughed about it for the rest of that night and
then I flew home and posted it in the Random Quotes
database you’ll find on the right-hand side of this page.
(Every time you click the skeleton key, another quote appears.)

Ted was rummaging through his closet last week when he spotted
a pair of 2-tone wingtips.  He emailed me this picture and we
laughed together, one more time, silently across the miles.

Random Quote:

“When I was nine years old, Mother gave birth to our long awaited baby sister. Unfortunately she was born hydrocephalic and only lived a few months. With a pain that lingers still, I remember watching as Mother gave Carolyn her daily bath. Next, she wrapped her in a pretty pink blanket and hugged her to her breast. A miracle happened then – not the one we had prayed for, not a miracle of healing, but a miracle of love. As Mother wrapped Carolyn Faye in the folds of her love and hugged her to her breast Carolyn was transformed. She was made lovely by our mother’s love, at least to us.”
