The Monday Morning Memo

“During the 16th-century, the time of Cervantes, Don Quixote’s
sidekick, the faithful Sancho Panza (Folco Lulli), comes into the
local tavern bearing a forlorn good-bye letter from Quixote to
the
love he never knew, Dulcinea. The barmaid Aldonza (Millie Perkins)

is so moved by the altruistic passion of the letter that she rushes
to the bedside of the dying Don Quixote and swears to him that
she is his Dulcinea. Inspired by Quixote’s idealism, she dedicates
herself to working for the disenfranchised and the sick…
until the Church accuses her of being a witch.”

~ Eleanor Mannikka, AMG AllMovie Guide

(Dulcinea, the only way to make things worse would be to
associate yourself with something called wizard academy…)

A movie about the namesake of Chapel Dulcinea…

This is an extremely rare Spanish movie poster in any size, but this one is the astoundingly rare epic size: 5 ft. wide by 7 ft. tall, probably the only one in existence in all the world. In just a few more months it will be 50 years old…

This film won the 1963 award for Best Film at Spain’s Cinema Writers Circle Awards, and was selected as the Spanish entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 35th Academy Awards.

Dulcinea was played by Millie Perkins, who had arrived in Hollywood amidst a whirlwind of publicity 4 years earlier when she was chosen over hundreds of other actresses to play the starring role in George Stevens’ Diary of Anne Frank. Twenty-eight years later, Millie  played the mother of Charlie Sheen in Wall Street.

Wizzo bought this poster as a gift to Wizard Academy and had it shipped over from Spain. It will either hang
(1.) in the new Welcome Center or
(2.) above the grand piano in the monumental PropertyGuys.com banquet hall in the Tower
. (Princess Pennie will decide after she sees it in both places.)

Is there anyone out there willing to donate $1,400 to get this magnificent Dulcinea poster professionally mounted and framed?
A carved, solid hardwood frame will bear a little brass plate that says “Dulcinea, (1963) the gift of ______________.” That blank is where your name will be. But you probably already figured that out, didn’t you? Seriously, it’s cool to come to the Academy and see something you gave to it and say to yourself, “That was me. I did that.” Just ask one of the hundreds of other alumni who own a little piece of this place. – Indy

Just call Becke or Jackie at (512) 295-5700 during business hours.
You can give them a credit card number or tell them you’re going to send a check. Either way, we’re going to have a party. Seriously. We’ll take some snapshots of it and post them in next week’s rabbit hole for you.

“You must give some time to your fellow men. Even if it’s a little thing, do something for others – something for which you get no pay but the privilege of it.”
