The Monday Morning Memo

Few Academy class photos have clearly identifiable front, middle, and back rows, so identification of students is difficult. But standing in the vice-chancellor’s office gave Mass Invasion a place to layer themselves on the steps.
Front – Mass and Kelly Giorgini
Middle – Sarah, Alec, Ken, Michele, Trish, Bill
Back – Steven, Dee, Patrick, Oz, Tom, Jeff, Daniel, Cedric, Jonathan, John
Missing from photo – Aaron

The questions you answered in today’s Monday Morning Memo were posed to the people in this photo just 3 days ago.

The key is to find common denominators that seem to connect a number of your choices, thus giving you a glimpse into the “hidden code” that might unconsciously be guiding your choices. This is a good first step in helping you learn to spot the patterns and connections in the choices of others.

I’m sure I’ll get in trouble for this, but the best way for you to understand this amazing blind spot within each of us is to tell you how the Wizard of Ads discovered it within himself just 18 months ago.

If I wind up in the dog house for this, you’ll post bail, won’t you?

Random Quote:

“Ms. Papacharissi said that in her 20 years of researching and interviewing people about online behavior, one conclusion has remained consistent: people use the internet to get more of what they do not get enough of in everyday life. So while people have been socialized to resist being impulsive in the real world, on the internet they cave to their temptations to lash out. ‘The internet becomes an easy outlet for us to shout something and feel for a moment fulfilled even though we’re really just shouting out into the air,’ she said.”

- Brian X. Chen, New York Times, Aug. 8, 2018, speaking of Zizi Papacharissi, a professor of communication at the University of Illinois-Chicago
