The Monday Morning Memo

"Houston… the Beagle has Landed."

September 30, 2002

I'll bet you thought Neil Armstrong said “Eagle,” didn't you?

When the commander of the Apollo 11 mission announced thelunar arrival of the Beagle on July 20, 1969, the world held itscollective breath in anticipation. Today is another day like that.Well, kind of… almost…. sort of… maybe.

After delays at the printer and the CD duplicator,Free the Beagle is finally on its way to bookstores aroundthe world. And most who have read it say it's the bestbook I've written.

But when they read the manuscript of the sequel,Beagles of Destinae, Free the Beagle suddenly becamethe second best book I've penned.

Free the Beagle is an allegorical fable about a lawyerand a beagle on a hero's journey, a multi-layered storyof self-discovery. Beagles of Destinae, the not-yet-releasedsequel, is the story of the duo's search for meaning and ofthe power of true love; a high-impact allegory aimed directlyat the heart of the reader. The entire time that I was writing it, Princess Penniemade me promise that I would take a long break from'round-the-clock writing as soon as it was done. When shefinished reading Beagles of Destinae, however, she immediatelyasked, “How soon can you have the third book ready? Are youworking on it now? Would you like me to schedule some timeoff for you so that you can work on it uninterrupted?”

Of all that I've written, these Beagle books are the onesfor which I would most like to be remembered.

Random Quote:

“We can only truly find ourselves when we make ourselves a gift to others. There is no life or happiness without personal and social relationships. I perceive that contemporary man is finally coming to undersand this. We don’t want to be individuals anymore. We want to be connected. I want to be a person with personal relationships. “
