River_DogQuixote

I walked into this painting to look at the wooden Rocinante and the lance. But then the river gestured to me and a few words flickered into my mind. I wrote them for you in letters of white.”

– Dog Quixote de La Mancha

Born in Poland in 1933, Samuel Bak and his mother were hidden in the attic of a Benedictine convent by a nun during the destruction of the Vilna ghetto. They were the only 2 people in their family to survive.

Samuel painted in Rome: 1959-1966, Israel: 1966-1974, New York: 1974-1977, Israel: 1977-1980, France: 1980-1984, and then Switzerland: 1984-1993. He has lived in Weston, Massachusetts since 1993.
