Subject: 3 Days with the Wizard
Roy,
I’ve attached the photo with your glitter puppies on and a link to the first of 3 articles I’m writing about my experience at WA.
You say you don’t like warm fuzzies… so that’s exactly what I’ll do to get you out of your comfort zone. You dubbed me a genius in front of the class so I owe you one.
Thank you for making this last week a(nother) transformational experience. You gave me your first Magical Worlds book in 2001 – the first of many Wizard of Ads books and set me on a journey of business consulting and writing; a passion that has grown into an agency with over 40 staff in two Canadian offices. I attend – many – seminars and workshops by great speakers and between you and Dr. Grant: I’m ruined for the ordinary. I can’t get ZZ Top out of my head.
And if you really do get up at 2am, I may be your first email of the day! I just got back from playing ice hockey – ah, good to be back in Cowtown.
I made an attempt at surprising Broca.
Here is the https://goo.gl/m9x7fd first of 3 blogs about my experience at Wizard. It’s not about anyone reading it; I love writing and use my personal blog as a journal of experiences that I relate back to for inspiration.
If you read it, I’d be honoured to receive some feedback.
I will be back to WA.

“

To My Mother

You were born on July 9, 1964, in Greenwood, Mississippi, delivered into the cradle of white supremacy. Listening to the stories of terror and hope woven into the story of your birth used to frighten me. The year before you entered the world, white supremacists were blocking food aid to Greenwood, trying to starve Black sharecroppers who were demanding their civil rights. You were carried home in the middle of Freedom Summer, right down the street from where Fannie Lou Hamer led a movement that included your neighbors and cousins to demand self-determination. You suckled and wailed, oblivious to your membership in the final group of Black babies born under Jim Crow. There were many such children, born just on the wrong edge of the fight for freedom. But only one of them was my mama.
