The Monday Morning Memo

Mark 7:7-9 King James Version (KJV)

Howbeit in vain do they worship me, Teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things ye do. And he said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition.

Mark 7:7-9 New American Standard Bible – NASB 1995 (NASB1995)

BUT IN VAIN DO THEY WORSHIP ME, TEACHING AS DOCTRINES THE PRECEPTS OF MEN.’ Neglecting the commandment of God, you hold to the tradition of men.” He was also saying to them, “You are experts at setting aside the commandment of God in order to keep your tradition.

Mark 7:7-9 New Century Version (NCV)

Their worship of me is worthless. The things they teach are nothing but human rules.’ You have stopped following the commands of God, and you follow only human teachings.” Then Jesus said to them, “You cleverly ignore the commands of God so you can follow your own teachings.

Mark 7:7-9 American Standard Version (ASV)

But in vain do they worship me, Teaching as their doctrines the precepts of men. Ye leave the commandment of God, and hold fast the tradition of men. And he said unto them, Full well do ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your tradition.

Mark 7:7-9 New International Version (NIV)

They worship me in vain; their teachings are merely human rules.’ You have let go of the commands of God and are holding on to human traditions.” And he continued, “You have a fine way of setting aside the commands of God in order to observe your own traditions!

Mark 7:7-9 Amplified Bible (AMP)

THEY WORSHIP ME IN VAIN [their worship is meaningless and worthless, a pretense], TEACHING THE PRECEPTS OF MEN AS DOCTRINES [giving their traditions equal weight with the Scriptures].’ You disregard and neglect the commandment of God, and cling [faithfully] to the tradition of men.” He was also saying to them, “You are experts at setting aside and nullifying the commandment of God in order to keep your [man-made] tradition and regulations.

Mark 7:7-9 New Living Translation (NLT)

Their worship is a farce, for they teach man-made ideas as commands from God.’ For you ignore God’s law and substitute your own tradition.” Then he said, “You skillfully sidestep God’s law in order to hold on to your own tradition.

Random Quote:

“To have no worth, no purpose, and no path, is the opposite of having identity, purpose, and adventure.

When you lift the hearts and eyes of people who have lived with fear, guilt, and shame because they felt they had no worth, no purpose, and no path forward; when you can cause those people to look upwards and see the sparkling sunlight that shines down into the Valley of the Shadow of Death from above those snowy mountaintops, you will soon march with a colorful cast of characters who will happily and eagerly scramble up those mountains alongside you.

Great is the man or woman who can guide people toward the Life Treasures of identity, purpose, and adventure. But here is the really good news: there is no shortage. There is an infinite, ever-flowing river of refreshing and clean identity, purpose, and adventure that flows through the bottom of the valley and out into the world beyond.

It is the only water worth swimming in.

Jump in. Splash around. Encourage your people to join you.

Let the other business owners worry about employee recruitment and employee loyalty. Those things will never be a problem for you.”
