The Monday Morning Memo

“Who was the grandfather of Jesus?”

It depends on who you ask.

“What do you mean?”

     According to Elton John,
‘Levon wears his war wound like a crown.
     He calls his child Jesus.’

“So if Levon was the father of Jesus,
who was the father of Levon?”

     Alvin Tostig.

“Who?”

     Alvin Tostig.
‘He was born a pauper to a pawn on a Christmas day
When the New York Times said, ‘God is dead
     And the war’s begun.’
Oh, Alvin Tostig has a son today.
     And he shall be Levon
And he shall be a good man.
     And he shall be Levon
In tradition with the family plan.’

So the father of Jesus was named Levon?
And the grandfather of Jesus was named Alvin?

If we’re talking about the Jesus Tostig “who blows up balloons all day,”
then yes. His father was Levon Tostig, and his grandfather was
Alvin Tostig. It’s right there in the song. Now pass the ketchup.
