The Monday Morning Memo

Vulnerability

Momma embezzled a lot of money to pay for her cocaine…
But she was a good Momma…

Momma was a good Momma…

Dad was loud and proud, and he was everybody’s friend…
They called him Chick, but he didn’t like it.
They called him Chick, but he didn’t like it.
That’s why he named me Manley.

That’s why he named me Manley.
That’s why my Daddy named me Manley.

I had  impetigo as a baby ’cause our house was not air conditioned…
I was born in New Orleans in a house…
And that house was not air conditioned…

Wasn’t no money to buy no A/C…
So my grandaddy stepped up…
And he took care of me…

I met my wife because my my name was Manley…
That’s why my wife found out about me…

I met my wife because my my name was Manley…
That’s why my wife found out about me…

She told her counselor that she was looking for a Manley man…
She said she wanted a Manley man.
The woman I married wanted a Manley man.
And that made the counselor think about me.

My Daddy named me Manley..
because he did not like being called Chick…
And it made a woman fall in love with me….
The name that Chick gave me…
Made a woman fall in love with me…

Jesus chased me to Australia…
Jesus followed me…
Jesus chased me to Australia…

Jesus followed me…
Jesus chased me to Australia…
Jesus followed me…

But now I follow Jesus…
Jesus is good to me…

But now I follow Jesus…
Jesus is good to me…

But now I follow Jesus…
Jesus is good to me…

But now I follow Jesus…
Jesus is good to me…

I preach to New Orleans every Sunday….
I preach to New Orleans every Sunday….
I preach to New Orleans every Sunday….
Now I follow Jesus!

He does not follow me.
I said I follow JESUS!

He does not follow me.
I said I follow JESUS!
He does not follow me.

I am afraid of ambition…
Ambition wants to de-stroy me…

I guard against ambition…
Ambition wants to de-stroy me…

I walk away from ambition…
Ambition wants to de-stroy me…

I am afraid of ambition…
I reach out for humility…

The key to real relationships…
is vulnerability…

The key to real relationships…
is vulnerability…

The key to real relationships…
is vulnerability…

If you want to walk with Jesus…
Vulnerability…

If you want to walk with Jesus…
Vulnerability…

If you want to walk with Jesus…
Vulnerability…

If you want to walk with Jesus…
Vulnerability…

If you want to go walkin’ around with God…
Vulnerability…

Jesus give the person listening…
Jesus give the person listening…
Jesus give the person listening…

Humility…
Humility.

Jesus give ’em humility.

Jesus give the person listening…
Jesus let them feel your love…

Jesus give the person listening…
Jesus let them feel your love…

Jesus give the person listening…
Jesus let them feel your love…

Vulnerability…

“Vulnerability.”

Random Quote:

“I’m going to do what people call rest for a while. I don’t quite know what that means – probably reorganize. I don’t know what work is entailed, writing work, I mean, but I do know I have to slough off nearly fifteen years and go back and start again at the split path where I went wrong because it was easier. True things gradually disappeared and shiny easy things took their place. I brought the writing outside, like a cook flipping hot cakes in a window. And it should never have come outside.”

- John Steinbeck, Dec. 30, 1959, in a private letter to Elizabeth Otis. Steinbeck: A Life in Letters,
