Non Nobis Domine
by William Byrd (1543-1623)

Non nobis Domine, Domine
Non nobis Domine
Sed nomine, sed nomine
Tuo da gloriam

Based on the Latin text for Psalm 115:1,
the original lyrics are as follows:

Non nobis Domine,
non nobis, sed nomine
Tuo da gloriam.

“Not unto us, O LORD,
not unto us, but unto thy name
give glory.”

Interestingly, William Byrd wrote this song
as Miguel de Cervantes was penning Don Quixote de La Mancha.

TRIVIA: It was from the word “Domine”
that I seussed Destinae, a Latin-sounding word
that evokes memories of both “Destiny” and “Destination.”

The video clip is from Henry V, starring Kenneth Branagh.
