The Monday Morning Memo

Nov. 5, 2008

Roy and Pennie,

Well, you are right on code, Roy. In 2004 you said that by 2008 the new civic cycle would be in full swing. The elections confirmed that. It was the under-30's who elected Obama, the Dream. A Moses for America. The votes-tally for those of us over 50 was for McCain, and even stronger for those over 60. Guess we old timers will have to get onboard now:)

Dennis and I look forward to a meal with you two in December.

Love
Jan

The Pendulum just swooshed by and the entire world heard it …

Wow, it is amazing how insightful the “Pendulum” predictions have become.
You have been telling us a shift is upon us and last night we heard the
Pendulum swoosh past the tipping point and thrust the nation into the Civic
Cycle at its shiniest.  I certainly hope you will be able to write on this
in the Memo … or perhaps you would be willing to write a SPECIAL BONUS
MEMO to address this huge shift that you have told us about.

Random Quote:

“I’ve looked for my sunglasses when they were on my head. Not too long ago, I was running late for work. I was in a rush out the door and we’ve got this drawer in our kitchen where I keep my wedding ring, my watch, my keys, and my wallet. And I was grabbing everything at kind of a furious pace, and I tapped my pocket; I had my phone there. I had my wallet there. But my keys weren’t there. I looked on the counter. The keys weren’t on the counter. I looked in the drawer. The keys weren’t in the drawer. So I was about to yell my wife’s name out, ‘Valerie!’ to ask her where the keys were, and when I opened my mouth to yell “Valerie!” the keys fell out of my mouth onto the floor, because in my hurry, I had taken the keys and put them between my teeth. About 10 years ago, my wife had had a tough week at work. She was driving home and I called her and I needed her to give me the contact information for a friend of ours. So I called and said, ‘Val, I need you to share this contact information with this person.” And she’s driving home, and she says, ‘Oh John, I can’t find my phone anywhere. I think I may have left it at work.’ I said, ‘Valerie, you’re talking to me on the phone right now.’ She said, ‘It’s been a long day.’ Raise your hand it you’ve ever done anything like that. Please make me feel better about myself.”
