Without exception, every person I have ever met in private equity believes they know more about marketing than I do. The evidence would indicate otherwise, but they believe it nonetheless. But these people didn’t make their fortunes by creating successful companies. They made their fortunes by purchasing companies that someone else had built, holding on to those companies awhile, then selling them on to someone else. It’s like flipping houses in real estate. But I’m not a flipper, I’m a custom builder. And as a builder, I’ll not take construction advice from someone who has never actually built a house.”
