The Monday Morning Memo

Roy,

Greetings from the bowels of the world’s largest advertiser. I hope you and Pennie and all the kiddies and grand-kiddies are doing well. I miss you guys but work and family responsibilities keep me tied down here so there’s little chance to hop in the tie-dyed VW bus and attend every event.

You know what I like about you, Roy (besides your off-the-wall wackiness)? You try at times to show the attributes of God in what you do. I have witnessed how you are no longer as visible in the Wizard Academy promo stuff, on the website, etc. Your MMM is the one place we get to see Roy but that’s about it. I believe you came to a point where you said, “It must increase, and I must decrease.” You realize it’s not about you, but about the knowledge that you and the many other instructors share with your students.

Another example is the sushi lunch you took David and me to last year. You ordered an abundance of food, and shared that you like to do this with others. To me this is a visual reminder of God’s abundance. By casting their nets on the other side of the boat, Jesus’ disciples pulled in so many fish the boat started to sink. How over-the-top and hilarious on God’s part! You like to do that too, don’t you?

Anyway, gotta go “struggle for the legal tender.” Take care and I hope to see you sometime in the next few months in Austin.

Random Quote:

“I saw my life branching out before me like the green fig tree in the story. From the tip of every branch, like a fat purple fig, a wonderful future beckoned and winked. One fig was a husband and a happy home and children, and another fig was a famous poet and another fig was a brilliant professor, and another fig was Ee Gee, the amazing editor, and another fig was Europe and Africa and South America, and another fig was Constantin and Socrates and Attila and a pack of other lovers with queer names and offbeat professions, and another fig was an Olympic lady crew champion, and beyond and above these figs were many more figs I couldn’t quite make out. I saw myself sitting in the crotch of this fig tree, starving to death, just because I couldn’t make up my mind which of the figs I would choose. I wanted each and every one of them, but choosing one meant losing all the rest, and, as I sat there, unable to decide, the figs began to wrinkle and go black, and, one by one, they plopped to the ground at my feet.”
