The Monday Morning Memo

“I would tell the tale as I have heard
fragments of it in the Hall of Dreams,
in the palace of the Heart of Man…”
– Henry Van Dyke, 1896,

The Other Wise Man

Van Dyke's The Other Wise Man
was made into a movie in 1985
starring Alan Arkin and Martin Sheen.
The movie is called The Fourth Wise Man.

Here's another perspective from
Henry Van Dyke:

“It is better to burn the candle at both ends,
and in the middle, too, than to put it away
in the closet and let the mice eat it.”

Amen, Henry, Amen.

Random Quote:

“Human nature hasn’t changed in 1 billion years. It won’t even vary in the next billion years. Only the superficial things have changed. It is fashionable to talk about ‘changing’ man. A communicator must be concerned with ‘unchanging’ man – what compulsions drive him, what instincts dominate his every action, even though his language too often camouflages what really motivates him.

For if you know these things about a man, you can touch him at the core of his being. One thing is unchangingly sure. The creative man with an insight into human nature, with the artistry to touch and move people, will succeed. Without them he will fail.”

- Bill Bernbach
