The Monday Morning Memo

Subject: My art used by the Wizard

I’ve been negligent about writing until now about the use of a detail from one of my paintings (shown below) in a couple of Monday Morning Memos. It’s fun to know Mr. Williams likes it enough to use it, but there is a little fact I’d like him to know. He’s written each time for the credit, “The kids flying over my head? I found them when I walked into a painting by Daniel R. Cooper, the brother of a guy who reads the wizard’s Monday Morning Memo.”

The actual story is that I’ve been a regular reader/fan of MMM since The Wizard came to Indianapolis many, many years ago to speak at the Indianapolis Ad Club. I’m the one who got my brother, Ron Cooper, to subscribe (along with others – mostly clients).

By the way, I’m having a one-artist exhibit in October titled “Portals”. I’ve gotten a kick out of reading Mr. Williams use of portals in several of his articles. I’d love to visit if I could ever get to Texas.

later,

Random Quote:

“As many years as I have been listening to Easter sermons, I have never heard anyone talk about that part. Resurrection is always announced with Easter lilies, the sound of trumpets, bright streaming light. But it did not happen that way. If it happened in a cave, it happened in complete silence, in absolute darkness, with the smell of damp stone and dug earth in the air. Sitting deep in the heart of Organ Cave, I let this sink in: new life starts in the dark. Whether it is a seed in the ground, a baby in the womb, or Jesus in the tomb, it starts in the dark.”
