The Monday Morning Memo

The BeagleSword was submerged
and the rabbit hole was Johnny-on-the-spot.

When Paul Johnnie Compton was born in 1927, the birth certificate
registrar inexplicably spelled Johnnie with an “ie.” Consequently
his daughters, including Pennie, would get the “ie” as well.

“Most folks are about as happy as they make up their minds to be.“
– Abraham Lincoln

Paul Compton was remarkable in that he never wanted anything more than he had. His life was the perfect example of what another Paul wrote to young Timothy 2,000 years ago: “Godliness with contentment is great wealth.”

If you’re familiar with that verse, you’ll remember the line that follows it,
“For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.” But I’m not entirely convinced of that second part. It seems to me that when Paul Compton stepped through the doorway that leads from this life, he carried with him the love of 4 daughters, 4 sons-in-law, 28 grand and great-grandchildren and the admiration and respect of every living being he encountered along the way.
