The Monday Morning Memo

GOTHAM GOSSIP
Friday, August 18, 2006
by Demetria Daniels

LIZA MINNELLI
rocked Brooklyn last night at Marty Markowitz’s Seaside Concert.

She was fantastic. She danced and joked and entertained with warmth and personality. She said the stage was her “home”.
Looking glamorous in a minidress and jacket of beige beads, she sang a song that her father, Vincent Minnelli, liked. And when the crowd asked her to sing Somewhere Over the Rainbow she responded, “It’s already been done.” (By her famous mother, Judy Garland.)
Of course she sang the famous New York, New York. When it was all over and the band had left, she came back on stage and sang accapella a beautiful song, without any accompaniment.

That showed her greatness.

“I have not looked at a newspaper in 20 years; if one is brought into the room, I flee. This is not because I am indifferent but because one cannot follow every road.”
