When dynamite was used to remove large amounts of granite
from under the eyebrows of George Washington during the sculpting
of Mount Rushmore, a large horizontal fracture opened in the granite
that would have been in the forehead of the third figure from the left.
Sculptor Gutzon Borglum then chose to lower the forehead of
Andrew Jackson down to the level of the fracture and sculpt
Theodore Roosevelt instead.
