The Monday Morning Memo

I Did Not Make It Up.

London Bridge spanned the Thames in London until it was purchased by
Robert McCulloch in 1967, dismantled, moved and reassembled in
Lake Havasu City, Arizona. He purchased the bridge to serve as a
tourist attraction for his real estate development for retired people.
The idea was successful, bringing thousands of interested tourists and retirement home buyers to the area.

It is a lifelong dream of Wizard Academy Cognoscenti Michael Bettersworth to sit on that bridge under the stars at midnight and sing “London Bridge is falling down” while drinking Celtic ale with a large group of friends. I understand that plans for this excursion are currently underway. Want to go? The great Steve Rae has expressed an interest, which was heightened consideraby when Michael agreed that the ale could be Scottish. Steve and his guitar, you know, have a 12-year history of leading late night sing-alongs at Wizard Academy.

Random Quote:

“There was no point in fighting – on our side or theirs. We had all the momentum; we were riding the crest of a high and beautiful wave. So now, less than five years later, you can go up on a steep hill in Las Vegas and look West, and with the right kind of eyes you can almost see the high-water mark – the place where the wave finally broke and rolled back.”

- Hunter S. Thompson, in 1971, speaking of the end of the '60s
