The Monday Morning Memo

ROUND TWO

In February, 1964, an outraged parent wrote
to the US Attorney General alleging that the song
“Louie, Louie” by the Kingsmen was obscene,
claiming the lyrics said,

A fine little bitch, she waits for me;
She gets her kicks on top of me.
Each night I take her out all alone;
She ain’t the kind I lay at home.

In response, J. Edgar Hoover instructed the FBI
to obtain a copy of the recording. He then conducted
a thirty-one-month investigation into the song and the band.

Am I Making This Up?

YES, you made it up, Indy.    NO, it’s true. Hoover was like that.
