The Monday Morning Memo

I Once Knew a Ponce Named Leon.

What did we do before we could “Google it?”

The other day I was listening to myself
when I heard myself say,

“That man is such a ponce.”

Ponce. Have you ever heard that word?

Aside from Ponce de Leon, I mean?

Me either.

I’m as certain as a dog can be

that I’ve never read the word or
heard it spoken but I knew exactly
what I meant when I said it:
“a man given to ostentatious or
effeminate display in manners,
speech and dress.”

I Googled it out of curiosity and
learned that my definition was, in fact,

precisely what “ponce” actually means.

Am I Making This Up?

YES       NO
