The United States lost about 500,000 men in WWII, a terrible tragedy.
But the Soviet Union lost 14 percent of its population, about 26 million.
That’s right. They lost 52 times as many people as we did. 

Stalin signed a nonagression treaty with Hitler in 1939,
feeling it would keep his people safe. This is why Stalin was
horribly unprepared 22 months later when Hitler marched on Moscow.
