The Monday Morning Memo

I was attracted to Cornelia Otis Skinner because she seems to be an excellent example of one of the archetypal faces of the Anima. Cornelia is another Dorothy Parker, another Rita Mae Brown. Extraordinary women, all. I see the third face of the anima revealed in all of the quotes for which these strong women are known. (I’ll share a bunch of these quotes with you on the following pages of this rabbit hole.) The third face of the Anima is the Amazon/Huntress

The Wizard spoke briefly about the Anima in his keynote presentation at Purdue University. Every memorable female character in fiction will be either the positive or negative version of one of the Four Faces of the Anima.

The Anima, you will recall, is an imaginary woman
that exists only in the mind of a man.

Similarly, the “Real Man” that exists only
in the mind of a woman is called the Animus.

The Wizard will be speaking in detail about these archetypes – and how to use them in marketing – in the upcoming session of Wizard of Ads LIVE, his [admittedly expensive] monthly webcast for subscribers.

Random Quote:

“We have this body of ours, a troublesome piece of luggage, we don’t really know anything about it and we need all sorts of Tools to find out about its most natural processes. Isn’t it scandalous that last time a doctor wanted to check what was happening in my stomach he made me have a gastroscopy? I had to swallow a thick tube, and it took a camera to reveal the inside of my stomach to us. The only coarse and primitive Tool gifted us for consolation is pain. The angels, if they really do exist, must be splitting their sides laughing at us. Fancy being given a body and not knowing anything about it. There’s no instruction manual.”

- Olga Tokarczuk, Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead, p. 83, winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature
