The Monday Morning Memo

Avital is the daughter of Dean and Talya. Ben is her fiancé.

Roy and Pennie,

Talya and I are visiting with Avital and Ben in St. Thomas. It is lovely here.

I’m sending the Oct 3 MMR description now, so that I don’t inadvertently overlook it during the hectic week to come. (We are supposed to leave for Florida mid-week, but Hurricane Ian may beat us there.)

The hotel where we’re staying, Windward Passage, has many of the design elements of the WA campus. So it almost feels like “home.”

All best,

DEAN

Random Quote:

“Purcell has a grin like the beer barrel polka. A ding-dong daddy grin. A Brooklyn Dodger grin. A grin you could wear to a Polish wedding. His smile walks in in woolly socks and suspenders and asks to borrow the funny papers. You could trap rabbits with it. Teeth line up inside it like cartridges in a Mexican bandit’s gunbelt. It is the skunk in his rose bush, the crack in his cathedral.”
