The Monday Morning Memo

 The BeagleSword was Starbucks
and the rabbit hole was organic and local.

Portlandia is a satirical sitcom bashing “snob hip” cities like Portland and Austin. Yes, I made up the descriptor “snob hip” but I think it works.

In her story about Portlandia in The New Yorker, writer Margaret Talbot says the show revolves around what Sigmund Freud called “the narcissism of small differences: the need to distinguish oneself by minute shadings and to insist, with outsized militancy, on the importance of those shadings.”

The quote from the Margaret Talbot story in The New Yorker and the video on this page were brought to our attention by Cognoscenti Michael Staires who will eat chicken from anywhere, any kind of chicken, no matter how it was raised.

“He who was seated on the throne said, ‘I am making everything new! Then he said, Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.

He said to me: It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End.'”
