The Monday Morning Memo

AustriaWineBeagle

GrunerI bought the Sofia rosé last week because it was incredibly pretty: the bottle, the label, the color of the wine – all of it.

I bought this week’s obscure wine for precisely the opposite reason. The only wine label that might be more generic than this one would simply say WINE in stenciled, black letters.

And this wine is from Austria.
Seriously? They grow wine in Austria?

And the name of the grape is “Veltliner.”
Okay, I’m in. That’s pretty weird.

The music of this wine is Joe Walsh singing Life’s Been Good to Me So Far. The original song was 1978. Start the video and then advance the scroll bar to 2:18 and you’ll hear music that’s colorful but shrill in a discordant sort of way that makes you wonder if the monotone might not be there on purpose. This is a music of notes pitched high enough to melt bacon fat. You’ll either love it or hate it. I’ve chosen a recent Joe Walsh performance rather than playing the original studio version of the song. It just seemed appropriate somehow.
