Yes, Marley Porter taught that to Pennie and me when he was designing Chapel Dulcinea. The basic rule of the Cathedral Effect is that the distance from floor to ceiling must be greater than the shortest distance from wall to wall. For example, the shortest distance of the footprint (of the interior) of Chapel Dulcinea is 12 feet, but the roof beam in the ceiling is slightly higher than 14 feet.
