I read a quote the other day,
“In a democracy, it’s your vote that counts.
In feudalism, it’s your Count that votes.”
Something about that quote reminded me of a lesson I learned from Ben Benson in 1992. Ben taught me that Family Values and Business Values are opposites.
Family Values are based upon equality and unconditional acceptance.
Business Values are based upon chain-of-command and performance-
based acceptance.
Run a family according to Business Values and you’ll wind up saying stupid things like, “Why can’t you get better grades like your brother?” Performance-based acceptance.
Run a business according to Family Values and you’ll soon have a country club for employees. Unconditional acceptance.
A nation is a family. We should accept each other because we are equal.
But an economy is a business. This led me to the following realization: “Capitalism is economic feudalism; ‘Whoever has the gold makes the rules.’ Communism is Democracy applied to economics.”
Am I wrong?
