Yep. The man who inspired the muppet “Floyd” went on become chairman of the Congressional Advisory Committee on Missile Defense. This episode of THE TODAY SHOW aired on December 15, 2005.

FloydIsAwesome

Jim Henson obviously patterned Floyd Pepper – his muppet rock-guitarist – on Duane Allman and Skunk Baxter.  Allman finished his shift with the Allman Brothers and clocked out early on October 29, 1971. Baxter was a founding member of Steely Dan in 1972 and then became one of the Doobie Brothers in 1974. Floyd Pepper […]

Procul_H

The band’s manager had a friend with a cat named Procol Harum, and he thought it sounded good. The band didn’t know what it meant, but later found out the Latin phrase procul harun means ‘beyond these things,’ which they thought appropriate. Why the cat was named Procol Harum is not known.

Journey of the Magi by TS Eliot

Conflicted about their journey and the result of it 32 years later, the wise men tell the story of their travails in the wilderness in this famous 3-minute poem by T.S. Eliot, read by John Gielgud, the famous English actor. (1904–2000)

Remember Donald Fagan, the lead singer/piano player of Steely Dan? (You just saw him on the previous page.) He’s still sitting at that piano, but look who he’s playin’ with these days! They call themselves The Dukes of September.

“The small boat pitched violently upon the heaving bosom of the ocean, causing Johnson to reflect that, although he generally liked bosoms, he was getting really tired of the ocean’s bosom, and wished that it would at least drop from a 44D to a 34B.” – the entry of Mr. William J. Thomas, Napoleon, and Henry

Thomas, Napoleon, and Henry Everyone agrees that Henry Leverseege would have become much more famous had he lived beyond 29. But even though he died young, his paintings hang in museums across England. There is only one of them in private hands. Mine. 🙂 Henry was born in 1803, the year that Thomas Jefferson famously […]

Random Quote:

“The sun oozed over the horizon, shoved aside darkness, crept along the greensward, and, with sickly fingers, pushed through the castle window, revealing the pillaged princess, hand at throat, crown asunder, gaping in frenzied horror at thesated, sodden amphibian lying beside her, disbelieving themagnitude of the frog's deception, screaming madly, You lied!”
