The Monday Morning Memo

This visual representation of a strange attractor was created by Nicolas Desprez in 2007.

Johnny Depp used a chaotic technique to create the
character of Capt. Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean.

As you probably know, Johnny based Capt. Jack’s personality
partly on The Rolling Stones’ Keith Richards. According to Johnny,
“Pirates were the Rock’n’Roll stars of that era, you know, of the 18th century. The myth, or the legend, would arrive months before they would ever make port… which is very similar to rock’n’roll stars… and it was about freedom.”

Take 5 minutes to watch the video. Go ahead.
The world can spin without your help for 5 minutes, can’t it?

Disney was highly aware of how much
Capt. Jack’s personality “did not belong.”
But Johnny Depp knew how well it would fit.

“The final episode of “Mash” aired on February 28, 1983. With 106 million viewers, it still holds the record for a television finale. The final episodes of “Cheers” had 80 million, “Seinfeld” had 76 million, and “Friends” had 53 million viewers.”
