The Monday Morning Memo

.

Charlie always told the same story,
whenever he got drunk.
Charlie said his Daddy was a bastard,
a son-of-a-bitch, and a skunk.

When Charlie got drunk every night
He said, “What my Daddy did just wasn’t right.”

“My sister bought me a new shirt for my birthday
and I felt like a million bucks.”
I went downtown with my buddies to laugh
and sing and such.

“We were the kings of the world…
The kings of the world…
We were the kings
of the world.”

My sister bought me a brand new shirt for my birthday.
She bought me a brand new shirt.
My sister bought me a brand new shirt for my birthday.
I  did not know how bad it would hurt.

I did not know how bad it would hurt.

I saw my Daddy.
And my Daddy saw me.
I saw my Daddy.
And the son-of-a-bitch saw me.

I had a brand new pack of cigarettes
in the pocket of my shirt.
Daddy saw that pack of cigarettes,
And what he did really hurt.

He ripped that pocket!
He ripped that pocket!
He ripped that pocket!
He ripped that pocket right off my shirt.

I never been so broken hearted….
I never been cut so deep…
That new shirt made me feel like a prince.
And I ain’t seen my Daddy since.

That new shirt made me feel like a prince.
And I ain’t seen my Daddy since.
That new shirt made me feel like a prince.
And I ain’t seen my Daddy since.

Charlie always told the same story,
whenever he got drunk.
Charlie always told the same story,
whenever he got drunk.

Charlie always told the same story,
whenever he got drunk.
He was an unhappy man.
And he was a drunk.

Because his Daddy was a son-of-a-bitch,
a rat bastard and a skunk.

Charlie died sad, broke, alone, and unhappy.
Because Charle put that memory on a shelf.
Charlie died sad, broke, alone, and unhappy.
Because Charle put that memory on a shelf.

But nobody never hurt Charlie,
As bad as Charlie hurt his self.
But nobody never hurt Charlie,
As bad as Charlie hurt his self.

Charlie hurt…
his self.
