The Monday Morning Memo

Don Cornelius was the creator of the nationally syndicated dance and music show Soul Train, which he hosted from 1971 until 1993. He was known for the phrase with which he closed each episode: “I’m Don Cornelius, and as always in parting, we wish you love, peace and soul!” Altogether, the show had a 35-year run. Superstar Aretha Franklin said, “An appearance on Soul Train meant an unknown person could become an American sensation overnight, very similar to American Idol. It was like if you had a record that sold maybe 10,000 copies, to be on Soul Train meant it might sell 100 to 200- to 300- or even 500,000 or more.” Check him out.

Random Quote:

“Those who dislike me will tell you that I exaggerate recklessly.

My friends will tell you I often speak the truth more powerfully than is completely accurate.

Psychologists will tell you I have a rich inner world.

I will tell you that I wrestle with a wandering mind.

The upside of this, my defining flaw, is that it makes me a better-than-average ad writer.

Which of your faults have you harnessed to work for you?”
