live in our world
Around each other
they are tightly curled
We are aware of some of them
that we do not see
but the rest are invisible
to you and me

These invisible people
what are their names?
And do they play
our kinds of games?
Do they believe
until the end
that whoever dies
with the most toys wins?

Do they make our mistakes?
Do they believe in our God?
Do they think that we are odd?
Do they know our names?
Do they know that we live?
Do they believe it is better
to forgive?
Do they even know
that we live?

Are we their invisible people
below the waterline?
Do we still think
that we are doing fine?
Do they stay on task
and do they ask,

‘These invisible people
what are their names?
And do they play
our kinds of games?
Will they sadly believe
until the end
that whoever dies
with the most toys wins?’
