In 1607,
(2 years after the publication of Don Quixote,)
a 15 year-old prince of India caught a glimpse of
a 14 year-old girl hawking silk and glass beads
in the Meena Bazaar.
Five years later he made her his empress.
When she died after 19 years of marriage,
he built a memorial to her that’s recognized
around the world.
