Floyd died on the 18th day.
But the weirdness wasn't over. Floyd's body was displayed in a glass-topped coffin in Crystal Cave for many years. It wasn’t part of the tour, but if you bribed the guide you could get a peek. One day the coffin was vandalized and the body stolen. It was found in a nearby field, minus a leg.
When the National Park Service acquired Crystal Cave and closed it to the public in 1989, Floyd’s descendants had him properly buried in Flint Ridge Cemetery. His grave has become a place of pilgrimage for spelunkers.
