You shouted with a roar.
‘If you don’t pay us to buy from you,
We won’t buy from you anymore!’

We said with a smile,
‘That’s fine with us,
but it will cause a fuss
when our boats don’t come ashore
and unload the wonders that Amazon
has been bringing to your doors.’

‘So we’ll give you that money,’
we said, still smiling,
‘But let us be specific: We won’t pay it,
Your people will, Atlantic to Pacific.
Our prices will rise into the skies
until your people run out of money.
The rest of the world will pay less than you.
And we think that’s kind of funny.’

‘And by the way,’ we said, ‘You can keep your stuff.
We won’t buy from you anymore.
Did you really believe, you pompous little man,
that you could win a worldwide trade war?’
