The Monday Morning Memo

NOTE FROM ROY: A young woman asked me during the Beagle’s Rescue Party how to write better ad copy for her listings on eBay. I told her to buy an old copy of Ogilvy on Advertising, “one of the five truly groundbreaking books on advertising.” Glen (above) was one of several people who wrote to ask for the names of the other four books.

I’m sure there are books you feel to be superior to these.
I, however, consider these books – some of which are obscure and
all of which are dated – to be the ones that advanced the art of advertising by the greatest leaps. Please don’t ask me to account for any books not on this list that you feel should be here. Let their absence from this list forever be a conundrum, an enigma, an unresolved mystery in your mind.

Maybe I never heard of the book.
Maybe I own a copy but have never read it.
Maybe I’ve read it but disagree with it.
Maybe I read it and liked it, but forgot about it,
which, when you think about it, should disqualify the book anyway since it has thus been proven to be “forgettable.”

Continue down the rabbit hole to read Wizzo’s list. – Indy

Random Quote:

“I was raised in Oklahoma and live in Texas. I am white, Protestant, and male. I voted for Ronald Reagan and the first George Bush and for the first term of George W. I self-identify as born-again and evangelical but I reject the notion that our nation is engaged in “a war on Christ.”

I believe the church in America lost its magnetism when it began spreading Christianity – a lifestyle – instead of spreading Christ, a savior who bought forgiveness for every person and then said, “Go tell the good news.”

I’ve met very few people who hate Jesus but I’ve met an uncountable number who hate self-righteousness and condescension. A casual acquaintance asked if I was a Christian. I answered yes. Their next question spoke volumes. “Classic Jesus or Republican Jesus?”

If that question makes you angry, you need to ask yourself why.”
