The Monday Morning Memo

After Hours staring Griffin Dunne and Rosanna Arquette – directed by Martin Scorsese

A terrific “black comedy” about a dull office worker who decides to take a trip from his “safe” home on the Upper East Side of Manhattan down to Soho to see a woman he met in a cafe.

His night begins with his money blowing out the window of the cab and gets progressively worse from there. The nightmare adventure features him being pursued by a lynch mob through the streets of the city in a Mr. Softee truck(!) and ends with him being plastered into a human sculpture similar to Edward Munch’s “The Scream”.

The offbeat characters, fantastical circumstances and outlandish coincidences are woven together in unpredictable – and very funny – ways.

And after hearing Rosanna Arquette tell the story of an old boyfriend, you’ll never watch the “Wizard of Oz” without chuckling again.

Thanks,

-Mike Ninnie

Random Quote:

“The basic tool for the manipulation of reality is the manipulation of words. If you can control the meaning of words, you can control the people who must use the words.

If you can get them to see the world as you do, they will think as you do. Comprehension follows perception.”

- Philip K. Dick
