“TIM: I was thinking earlier tonight how when I started FatWallet, there were plenty of coupon sites out there, they just weren’t done professionally or kept up to date. Obviously there are some artists that get marketing, but it is the exception rather than the rule – I feel like the packaging and storytelling makes things more spreadable.

ROY: Ten years ago, I occasionally taught an Art Marketing class, and that is exactly what I told them. 30+ years ago, a large part of my income came from selling art. I made several hundred thousand doing it. Every idiot artist believes they “demean” their work when they explain it. But people bond with the STORY first, the art is just an artifact and a memento of the story. The IDEA, (the story, the belief, mood, feeling, attitude) represented by the art is what makes it powerful.”
