50 Cent Was in a Wreck
– Peter Nevland, Writing Instructor

Assad’s killin’ and rapin’ in Syria

But 50 Cent was in a wreck
Blood’s spillin’ in the streets of Afghanistan
But 50 Cent was in a wreck
Europe’s 500 trillion meters in unity bailouts
But 50 Cent was in a wreck
Black single moms can’t pay the rent
But 50 Cent was in a wreck

He’s been hospitalized, demoralized, anesthetized, fantasized,
Laid out on a stretcher
Injected with white doctor’s needles,
He may have strained his neck.

Oh, it’s nothing’ compared to bullet holes, entourage fights, black and white, women’s rights
But we sleep easy at night
In our sound bites we trust
Keeps our lust for entertainment in check

It’s still on the hill where Molly’s Bench sits
But 50 Cent was in a wreck
Cedars grow gnarled and wild under a burning sun
But 50 Cent was in a wreck
Beauty stretches her nakedness before me
But 50 Cent was in a wreck
The music of cicadas at night has caused me to forget
The scrapes and bruises 50 Cent received in his minor car accident.

Random Quote:

“It’s life or death for America, people tell you. Angry debates about taxes, religion and race relations inflame the newspapers. Everyone is talking politics: your spouse, your teenage daughter, your boss, your grocer. Neighbors eye you suspiciously, pressing you to buy local. Angry crowds gather, smelling of booze and threatening violence; their leaders wink, confident that the ends justify the means. The stores have sold out of guns. It’s 1775 in Britain’s American colonies. Whose side are you on?”
