Sold at Christie’s in Paris on Nov. 28, 2012 for $280,000.
Here’s what Christie’s Auction House had to say about the painting:
“Painted around 1941-42, Don Quixote is one of a series of paintings by Picabia – based on the aesthetics of the poster – with imagery directly inspired by popular iconography. As in most of his paintings in the interwar years, the image is frozen, like a snapshot. The colours and brightness are exaggerated, with an excessive contrast between the warm and cool tones.”
