The Monday Morning Memo

Andrew!

Thanks for passing this on to Indy so I can finally put my question to rest.
I am under 2 years old in Germany when the bear and I meet. I was not old enough to ride the bumper cars (besides they drove from the wrong side) so the bear was consoling me. She was sharing a great story that had me thinking about the weightier things in life.

Now that I am older I can not remember her story. So… Saint Indy, would you please get the story from my bear friend and translate it to English? Thanks.

Make it a great day.

Melvin,

The girl inside the bear is Hedda Bleier. She was 19 years old.
Translated into English, this is what she whispered to you:
(Beagles have very good hearing.)

Hello Little Man and you are a handsome little man.  I remember when I was just your age. My sisters took me to a swimming pool with them and the lifeguard wouldn’t let me swim because he said I was too small, so I had to sit and watch my sisters have fun, but when I got older I became a champion swimmer and then I became a lifeguard at the SAME POOL my sisters took me to when I was a Kleine. And one day I saw a little girl trying to swim and she was sinking to the bottom of the pool and I jumped in and saved her life. This really happened, little man, it really happened, so don’t you worry a bit about these old bumper cars because I’ll bet you’re going to become a famous race car driver or an engineer or maybe you’ll do what I’m doing right now. Maybe you’ll help people see things differently and make them feel better and make them have a better day. Okay, they’re coming for you now, but you remember what I told you.”

And then she handed you back.

Don’t you remember?

Indy
