The Monday Morning Memo

This little cliff (above) stands behind Gracilla and the Garden of Joy.
Coy and Brad are mimicking the archway that you and Pennie and the wizard are going to build (except that your archway will be much taller than Coy and Brad, of course.) Sarah kneels to show you how high the archway will rise above the people who pass under it. Sean and Jacob and Devin are showing you where the sidewalk will ramp up the cliff at an angle.

Below: Brad and Sarah are the last to climb down from the short cliff.
Sean, Coy, Jacob and Devin are to the right of Gracilla.
This new sidewalk will allow a happy bride to use the luxurious bathrooms in the tower to prepare for her wedding while another bride is using the changing room in the Welcome Center.

With 2 sets of changing rooms, the Academy will be able to accomodate
6 weddings per day instead of just 3. Your Portal to Adventure and the bit of bauble you send us to embed in it will appear in more than 1,000 sets of wedding photos each year. Cool, huh?

The terraced Garden of Joy was built by 50 Brothers of the Mudd five years ago when I made a similar appeal and showed you the photo below.

Look at what your donations became…

If you want in on this very cool new Portal to Adventure project, call Jackie or Becke (Becky) with your credit card number at (512) 295-5700 or make your $50 contribution at our “details” page online.

Random Quote:

“That I didn’t even know at the beginning that I had started on my journey is typical of my naivete. I think I have always been behind in life, not catching on to what’s happening until it is all over, not achieving the age of eighteen until I was thirty and finding it was too late to have the adventures I should have had at eighteen. If a strong opinion should be voiced, I have always been able to voice it three or four hours after the event, in my mind. I probably have lived too much in my mind, in my reading and daydreams. So what I had embarked on, unknowing at first, was a slow awakening to life, itself, a birth, with all the trauma of being pushed out of a protective womb.”

“I suppose my naivete has come, at least in part, out of my being an academic, but that, ironically, became also the agency for change. I am a teacher of American literature at a college…”
