Monday Morning Memo

Rory Sutherland tells a series of wonderful stories on Youtube.

The episode from which we created the song below is titled, “Rory Sutherland – Alchemy.”

Rory has one of the few Advertising and Marketing minds that we really admire. The Youtube song below was created from one of his very best stories. We recently posted it on our Absurdocrats channel.

By our definition, Rory is one of us. He is one of those people like yourself for whom we built Wizard Academy, that mystical place that sits perched high on a plateau 900 feet above the city of Austin.

The majority of people assume that we are being”colorfully inaccurate” when we make the statement that you just read. They believe that anything that “sits perched high on a plateau 900 feet above the city of Austin” must by mythical, not mystical.

But alas, they are wrong. Those of you who have stood on the stardeck of the Library Tower on a clear day, gazing at the skyline of Austin ten miles away, well, you know that all of it is real.

Just like this story told by Rory Sutherland that we turned into a song.

Random Quote:

“Candidly, it seemed little worthy of all this searching. A few broken ends of village, with no particular street, but a succession of open places heaped with logs and fagots; a couple of tilted crosses, a shrine to Our Lady of all Graces on the summit of a little hill; and all this, upon a rattling highland river, in the corner of a naked valley. What went you out for to see? thought I to myself. But the place had a life of its own.”

- Robert Louis Stevenson, Travels with a Donkey in the Cevennes (1878) p. 48
