The Monday Morning Memo

Now it exists and will remain in this space forever.
APHRODITE CRYING
You don’t see me but I exist, right above this white round shape. I’m Aphrodite, an intangible sculpture made of air and spirit. Feel my absence which is a true existence. Still don’t see me? And yet I am here, in front of you, and I cry because I am beauty and love which is disappearing. I am yours. Give me the shape you want. Make sure I don’t disappear altogether. At least make sure that my name remains. If you feel my presence, it means that you too are present, you exist. Inside or outside of this shape you are the same as me, you are Aphrodite, you are beauty and love. Remember, it’s really simple. Maybe too simple. Tomorrow when you think of me, you will think of yourself. (Yet you are already forgetting me). – Salvatore Garau

NOTE FROM INDY – In creating the voice of the invisible statue that exists above the white circle, Salvator Garau tells us that Aphrodite, while crying, says, “At least make sure that my name remains.” This is an essential element because without a name, we don’t know what to imagine.

Random Quote:

“Two weeks earlier, I had enlisted in the United States Air Force. Why? — one might fairly ask. Well, for precisely the same reason that 90 percent of all enlistees join the military, which is to say, I was at a point in my life when I didn’t know what else to do.

There may have been a few times in our nation’s history when there were ‘the heroic men and women who sacrifice so much to keep America safe and preserve our freedom,’ (in the days and weeks following the attacks on Pear Harbor and the World Trade Center, for example), but I have to say that in my four years in the air force, including posting at an army base in Korea; and during numerous conversations with both veterans and those on active duty, I never once heard a serviceman or -woman claim that he or she had joined up in order to preserve American values and keep their countrymen free.”
