Highlighted in the photo above are Jeff Sexton and his wife, Deanie, smooching. Interesting word, don’t you think? Smooching. The sound of the word is sort of like the sound of the action it describes, don’t you think? Smooching.
Jeff is a writer of persuasion. He sometimes disagrees with Wizzo, which is sort of fun to watch from the sidelines if you keep your head down. Jeff doesn’t disagree with Wizzo about big things, but he often challenges him about little things. Jeff’s most recent challenge to Wizzo came while he and Deanie were in Austin for the Bat Mitzvah of Bryan Eisenberg’s daughter, Hannah, at Tuscan Hall on the campus of Wizard Academy. The challenge had to do with the wizard’s recent rant about the counterproductive nature of a writer’s rule known as Chekhov’s Gun. Jeff argued that Chekhov’s Gun continues to be a valuable and useful guideline for writers. Obviously, I’m staying out of it. My bet is that they’ll ask Chris Maddock for a ruling during the writer’s class on November 13.
You signed up for that, right?
I understand a couple of rooms remain available in Engelbrecht House. Staying on campus is awesome. God bless J.P. Engelbrecht and all the other alumni who built that student mansion so our guests wouls have a place to stay FOR FREE. Very cool. Check with vice-chancellor Daniel Whittington at 512-720-8801 to see if free rooms are still available. You can also email him. Daniel@WizardAcademy.org
The photo, by the way, is a small detail within a much larger photo of the Wizard of Ads Partners during a partner meeting at Downtown Disney, near Orlando.
Chekhov Sexton occasionally quotes the wizard in his blog.
Here’s one of his best posts.
Chekhov Sexton, like the wizard, is an introvert.
That’s why they hang out together at parties. They become deeply engrossed in an irrelevant argument as a way to pass the time. Me? I’m workin’ the dance floor like John Travolta. Disco Dog.
