Josef Sigall was born in Brody, Poland on May 18, 1891.
Educated in Vienna, he was a gold medalist at the
Royal Art Academy during 1909-15.
In Europe, he painted nearly all contemporary monarchs
including King George VI.
He came to the U.S. in 1922 and painted portraits of
Presidents Coolidge, Hoover, Roosevelt, their families and cabinets.
Sigall moved to Los Angeles in 1926 via Argentina.
By the 1930s he had moved north to Saratoga where he owned a 70-acre estate.
Sigall was inspired by his beagle.
