The Monday Morning Memo

Yes, it’s a rap song,
but with an authentic musicality
that one doesn’t usually associate with rap.

I’m not usually a fan of rap, but I can hear talent shining out from
this song in a dozen different directions. I tell the story of the rapper on the videoscreen while his music plays as the soundtrack. Listen and decide if you agree with me about the dozen directions.

Pennie asked the rapper to email the lyrics and this is what he sent.

“If the Dark Shall Come”
©LOS – David Neubert

I struggle and I try to confide in my own mind
But these demons screaming seeming don’t want me seeing none the light
I’m pushing on but it’s doing nothing,
I clap two times at it and it’s still doing nothing
Tech-rats hide the fact that they “new” in something…
My eyes on the “Tri” can’t fool me if I’m moving upwind
Sick and diseased sticking with these beasts
Different me’s deliver peace only if I’m deceased
For sake of my family they got me enduring this journey
Hopefully they can have the right while these devilish nights/knights
try and earn me
Soul ain’t mine to release that’s for surely
But if it is I’m finished with this Fkng Cornmeal they try and serve me!
Pack it up I’m checking out here early,
Never seeing me in this bitch again no mark up on my Holy wording
Making mistakes but they due in learning
Take in the breaks praying that this tape I drape replace the patient burnings burning

Well If the Dark shall come may they nights/knights they fall
May they nights/knights they fall,
May they nights/knights they fall
repeat 3x

Now where’s the beauty if it’s being eclipsed?
I see these puppets on a string but do they really exist?
Now hearing me in this mix is “nearly-a-hit” MISS
Striking (XXX) out to get some action either way the lick splits
Double entendres – trouble to wanderers
Huddle with all of your finest you’ll find there’s still puddles under the blinders yup
Now that’s the pupils focused at another vision –
I’ll transition to the aforementioned henchmen to give my decision
Might with precision
Highly cryptic but the Mayan listing
“Hieroglyphic-Eye” significant to buy-ins I won’t mention
(They) Might quote me “final-pension” Destiny for primal sensing
I go grinching holidays surround me hiding thy intentions
What do the clouds envision staring down at men and women?
Merely distracting when I’m higher than them
I’m rewinded with Him
But till that ticket I’m still here with the snakes
A lonely cricket, Jiminy bending my knee at the stake
Showing my faith!

Well If the Dark shall come may they nights/knights they fall
May they nights/knights they fall,
May they nights/knights they fall
repeat 3x

*I perform a tenor saxophone solo for the third verse – speaking through tones

**Repeat chorus to fade in sax
