The Monday Morning Memo

This life-size monument of The Old Man and the Sea, by Jane DeDecker, is – even as you read this – being cast in deathless bronze in Loveland, Colorado.  He will arrive at Wizard Academy in March and his location will be the starting point for all campus tours thereafter. (The sculpture you see above is clay.)

Five of the Seven have stepped forward with $10,000 apiece to fund this important work. Are you strong enough to swing a $10,000 hammer?  If so, add your name to ours. We’re going to fly to Loveland soon to meet the sculptor and the Old Man before he begins his journey. Come with us? Just call Becke at (512) 295-5700 and tell her your intentions. We can even let you make installments if that makes it easier for you.

Did you hear the good news about the Business Office? We needed someone to throw down $30,000 to pay for it and that person stepped forward last week. Details in a future rabbit hole…

“What do I think of Woodstock '94? Damn, this thing is BIG. Takes a couple'a hours to walk the field. Woodstock '94 is computerized, commercialized, digitized and revitalized. And me, I'm just another media weasel trying to make sense of it all.”

- columnist Leonard Pitts, 10 years before winning his 2004 Pulitzer Prize
