Just before she left for Afghanistan 7 years ago, Susan quoted
Ambrose Redmoon, “Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather
the judgment that something else is more important than fear.”
Erik Cudd sent this video to our attention. It’s 20 minutes but it won’t feel like it. The speaker is from South Africa and he begins by talking about the day he realized he was a racist. But then the video makes an interesting turn and you discover it’s not really about him and racism; it’s about you and me and our own need for self-honesty, self-realization and self-awareness in matters that go far beyond the narrow boundaries of racism.
Part of me pulls back from Bruce Muzik because he mirrors some of the markings of the “self-help” crowd that always strike me as a little bit hollow and self-serving, but another part of me likes Bruce and agrees with what he’s saying. Give the video a couple of minutes and see what you think.
